Tomioka Racing Air Oil Separator for 2011 Subaru WRX Review
Tomioka Racing Air Oil Separator for 2011 Subaru WRX Review
Below is what I came across to while cleaning the intercooler:
I first was in need of an AOS (Air Oil Separator) simply because I was getting oil in my intercooler ultimately gathering right inside the cold part of my turbo. After installing the AOS the vehicle was driven under two conditions with a day’s rest in between.
First day the vehicle was driven frequently at about 35mph at a rate of 20 miles of total distance traveled. When I finally disassembled what needed to be checked, the intercooler showed a slight reduction of oil being transferred through the actual intercooler and towards the turbo.
Highway testing was at an average speed of 70mph for a total of 60 miles, and the heavy aroma of oil was no longer an issue. When both inspections where conducted the following was inspected:
-Intercooler
-By Pass Valve
-Turbo Inlet Housing
-Cold Side of Turbo Vacuum and Return Lines to AOS
While taking a break from putting the intercooler to work, the B.P.V and turbo inlet were both degreased and cleaned up with hot water to eliminate all left over oil.
(After cleaning the vehicle was stored.)
Day 2:
Vehicle was tested utilizing the following methods:
-Heel Toe Shifting
-Rev matching
-Trail braking
During spirited testing, the vehicle was put under high strains one would encounter on a track. High revs down shifting and red line was pushed for 30 miles with a 30 min break in between. After inspecting there was reduction of oil in the intercooler B.P.V, the cold side of the turbo, vacuum and return lines to AOS.
Final results:
Intercooler, B.P.V, turbo inlet housing, cold side of turbo all showed very little to almost no oil. The return lines to the AOS showed signs of oil being properly processed back into the oil dump tube. I felt as if the materials that the AOS is made out of is very sturdy and looks great with both seals securing it to where it can be comfortable, reliable and pleasing to the eye.
